Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Gilberto G.B. Asuque led Embassy officers and staff and the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) in commemorating the 114th martyrdom anniversary of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal last 30 December 2010.
The simple ceremony began with a flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy entrance where Dr. Rizal’s portrait was set beside the Embassy seal.
It was followed by Ambassador Asuque’s message on the significance of the celebration’s theme Rizal: Haligi ng Bayan (Rizal: Pillar of the Nation)
The Ambassador reminded the officers, staff and the wards in the FWRC of Dr. Rizal’s patriotism and sacrifice to gain the independence of the country and to promote the unity of the Filipinos, legacies that remain the pillars of the nation today.
He also read the Christmas and New Year messages of President Benigno S. Aquino III and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo to the Filipinos overseas.
The celebration concluded with the commemorative photos of the staff and the FWRC wards.
