1st Photo Contest

Contest theme

The 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition will adopt the theme Its More Fun in the Philippines.”

Entries must strictly adhere to the competition’s theme. Photographs should be able to capture the unique facets of Filipino culture, the country’s exotic natural resources and attractions, diverse fun activities, fiestas/festivals, etc. The images should be able to depict the fun being experienced by anybody when exploring or traveling the Philippines.

Contest duration

PAGCOR will start accepting entries via online submission only at the corporations official website (www.pagcor.ph) from January 1, 2013 until May 20, 2013 only.

Who can join?

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old at the time of the official start of the contest (i.e. January 1, 2013).
  • The contest is open to all nationalities provided that the participant is residing in the Philippines for the duration of the contest.
  • PAGCOR employees and their relatives up to the third degree of affinity or consanguinity are disqualified from joining the competition.

Categories

The contest has four different categories:

People

  • Portrait, human interest, genre or scenes from everyday life, and the like (photos of politicians are prohibited)

Customs and Traditions

  • Festivals, celebrations, food, local icons and the like

Nature

  • Travel destinations, flora & fauna, natural resources and/or attractions, landscapes, outdoor scenery, underwater photography and the like

Structures and Historical Landmarks

  • Heritage sites, historical and architectural landmarks, etc. Please note that commercial buildings like malls are not allowed.

Submission of entries

Participants must register online. Each participant should fill out the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition ONLINE REGISTRATION/ENTRY FORM at the official website of the corporation (www.pagcor.ph). Please note that pagcor will only accept entries submitted online in the PAGCOR website. Those that will be submitted through other means will automatically be disqualified.

Please make sure that you come back to this site on January 1, 2013, for the clickable link that will lead you to the registration/entry submission portal for the competition.

  • Each participant is allowed to submit only one entry each in just two categories. (e.g., a participant can submit one entry for People and one entry for Nature but not two entries for People).

Please note that PAGCOR’s online registration automatically limits the submission of entries per participant in only two categories. Therefore, participants must make sure that they will only submit their final photo entry/entries when registering and submitting their photo/s online.

Moreover, a participant is not allowed to use multiple email addresses in sending their entries. A participant who submits his/her entries using multiple or different email addresses will be disqualified from the competition.

  • Entries must be in full color. Photos in Black and White or Sepia are not allowed.
  • The online registration/entry form should be completely filled out with the participant’s name, full address, telephone number, and e‐mail address. Each participant should also attach a scanned 2×2 photo to his registration form.

Proof of residency (any governmentissued ID, barangay clearance, etc.) attesting to the complete address indicated by the participant in the online registration form will be required by PAGCOR once the participant qualifies in the finals of the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition.

Since the competition limits the age of participants to at least 18 years old, proof of age such as an NSO authenticated birth certificate will be required by PAGCOR once the participant qualifies in the finals of the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition.

  • The entry to be submitted should be an image/photo with a corresponding “photo title” and “photo caption.” The caption must indicate the place where the image was taken, and must have an accurate description of what the photo is about.
  • Deadline for the online submission of entries is on May 20, 2013, (Monday) at 11:59 p.m. The submission portal will be automatically closed and reject any entries that will be submitted after that date and time.

Photograph/image requirements

  • Photographs should be in digital format/file. PAGCOR will not accept print or film submissions for the initial screening of the entries. Only photos/images submitted via online will be accepted.
  • Photographs to be submitted should have no watermark. There should be no identifying mark on the images to eliminate any bias during the screening and judging of the submitted photos.
  • The photograph can be taken using a digital or film camera. Scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable.
  • All digital files must be 300 dpi, in JPEG or JPG format, and at least 1,600 pixels on one side (whether image is vertical or horizontal).
  • Photographs to be submitted to the 1st PAGCOR National Photography competition must have been taken after the official launch and announcement of this contest (November 29, 2012).
  • The following photographs or images are disqualified:
    • Photographs that have been previously submitted or have won in any local or international photography contest.
    • Photographs bearing images of public officials.
    • Photographs bearing a PAGCOR or Casino Filipino logo / element / official / employee.
    • Photographs that are digitally enhanced or altered for creative purposes. Altered images refer to photographs manipulated and applied with special effects (colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, stitched panoramas, high dynamic range or HDR images, etc.). Only minor adjustments in the color, sharpness, contrast or digital equivalents are acceptable.
    • Photographs that violate a person’s rights including, but not limited to copyright and privacy.
    • Photographs that contain obscene, sexually explicit, offensive or any other objectionable or inappropriate content.
  • Please note that sorting of the regional entries shall be strictly residency-based. This means for instance that a contest participant who resides within Metro Manila must only send their entries under Metro Manila. Proof of residency will be required.

PAGCOR’s screening committee will automatically remove and disqualify photos/entries that are sent to the wrong regional group.

Undertakings of the contest participants

  • By participating in the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition, the contestant acknowledges and attests that:
    • The submitted image is a single work of original material created and taken solely by the participant;
    • The photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.
    • The contest participant is responsible for securing—prior to submission of the entry—a formal consent from concerned parties (i.e. subjects of the photo)if the image contains any material or element that is not the participant’s property, or if any person appears in the photo. For minors that are captured or photographed in the submitted entry, the contest participant must obtain a written consent from the minor’s parents/legal guardians. PAGCOR should not—in any way—be held responsible for the contest participant’s inability to secure the necessary permission or consent for their submitted entries.

Screening of entries/photographs

Criteria for judging

    • Photographic Quality
    • Visual Impact
  • The decision of the judges in the regional screenings and grand finals are final and not appealable.

  • For each regional screening, PAGCOR will have an esteemed panel of judges to be composed of one independent/renowned photographer, one independent owner of a photo gallery/studio, and one PAGCOR official.
  • Per regional screening, the panel of judges shall select the top 10 qualifiers for each of the four categories. From the top 10 qualifiers per category, the top three (per category)will be chosen who will eventually move on to the grand finals of the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition. Following is a breakdown of the selection of the top qualifiers and semi‐finalists per region:

  • The top 12 semi‐finalists per region will be formally notified by PAGCOR via phone call and e‐mail stating that their entries have qualified for the Grand Finals.

Grand finals

  • Final judging day is on July 5, 2013. All the 48 grand finalists shall be exhibited at the Airport Casino Filipino in Parañaque City from July 5 to 11, 2013. The formal announcement of winners is on July 12, 2013.
  • Each finalist must have their qualifying photos printed using the following specifications:
    • Printed image must be 18 inches x 24 inches (portrait or landscape), with 300 dpi/high resolution.
  • The printed entries can be submitted personally or via courier to PAGCOR’s Corporate Communications Department (CCD), 6th floor/PAGCOR Hyatt Offices, cor. Pedro Gil and Mabini Sts., Manila on the following dates:
    • On or before June 10, 2013, for the Grand Finalists from Luzon
    • On or before June 14, 2013, for the Grand Finalists from Visayas
    • On or before June 17, 2013, for the Grand Finalists from Mindanao
    • On or before June 21, 2013, for the Grand Finalists from Metro Manila
  • PAGCOR shall handle the framing of all 48 photo entries for the Grand Finals. All expenses for the framing and staging of the exhibit will be shouldered by PAGCOR.
  • During the final judging, the panel of judges will select three grand winners per category, details as follows:

Other provisions 

  • The photo entries of the 12 grand winners shall be used for PAGCOR’s 2014 Calendar.
  • PAGCOR and the Department of Tourism (DOT) shall have the intellectual property rights and exclusive use over the 12 winning photos in perpetuity and the remaining 36 photos for a period of 2 years. During this period, only PAGCOR and DOT shall have the sole right to use, produce or reproduce, make imitative works of the photos for their various communication materials and for whatever purpose it may be deemed fit by PAGCOR and the DOT without further compensation to the artist, his heirs and assignees.
  • PAGCOR assumes no responsibility for any transmission error or delay in the online submission of the entries. The agency cannot also be deemed responsible for any possible theft, deletion and/or alteration that might be made on the entries/entry forms that will be submitted online.
  • By submitting their entries to the 1st PAGCOR National Photography Competition, all contest participants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless PAGCOR and its employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest.
  • PAGCOR has the right to verify the validity and originality of any submitted photo entry and/or contest participant (including the contestant’s identity and address). PAGCOR also reserves the right to disqualify any contest participant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with the contest’s Official Rules or who tampers with the entry process.
  • By joining this competition, the contest participants agree that their personal data may be used by PAGCOR for purposes of announcing to the general public updates on the outcome of the regional screening and grand finals, as well as for other PR and communication materials of the corporation. The contest participants also agree that PAGCOR may opt to upload in its official website a gallery of the photos to be submitted for this contest.
