BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

PROCLAMATION NO. 837

DECLARING 2 MAY 2005, MONDAY, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

WHEREAS, Labor Day which is observed as a regular holiday on May 1st of each year, recognizes the contribution of the labor sector; both at home and abroad, to the economic development of our country;

WHEREAS, the commemoration of Labor Day falls this year on a Sunday; and

WHEREAS, 2 May 2005, Monday, may be declared as special (non-working) day pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, by order of Her Excellency GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, do hereby declare the following:

SECTION 1. 2 May 2005, Monday, shall be a special (non-working) day throughout the country.

SECTION 2. All activities and celebration in observance of Labor Day shall, however, remain to be observed on 1 May 2005, Sunday;

SECTION 3. The Department of Labor and Employment shall issue the appropriate guidelines to implement this Proclamation.
