DOST Secretary designates PCIEERD Executive Director as officer-in-charge of Office of the Undersecretary for R&D

A March 14, 2012 press release from the Department of Science and Technology: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario G. Montejo has designated Dr. Amelia Guevara, incumbent Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Office of the Undersecretary for Research and Development (OUSEC-R&D). The appointment of Dr. Guevara comes after the early retirement of Dr. Graciano P. Yumul Jr. who served as DOST’s Undersecretary for R&D from January 26, 2006 to March 12, 2012. Continue reading

DOST to provide mosquito traps to all public school classrooms in the country

A July 22, 2011 press release by the Department of Science and Technology: Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo made a commitment to the President to make the ovicidal-larvicidal (OL) trap available to all public school classrooms in the country by August this year. DOST to design and deploy water hyacinth harvester in July

The DOST’s immediate mission order from Malacañang is to help de-clog major river systems like the Rio Grande de Mindanao, which swamped villages along its banks and portions of Cotabato City because of massive swarms of water hyacinth.

DOST brings efficient drinking water filter technology to NHA resettlement community

The ITDI water filter is made of red clay coated with nano-colloidal silver, an anti-microbial agent that is more efficient than the “chlorination process in traditional water filter system,” ITDI explained. The pot-shaped filter is placed on top of a plastic container that holds the filtered water.

This simple science tested solution can “reduce e coli count to less than 1 percent,” DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo told Southville 3 residents. Continue reading

PAGASA forecast: No radioactive material from coming Amihan
